karnataka cake cancer:-The Karnataka government has recently issued a warning after cancer-causing colours were found in some cake samples being sold by bakeries in the state. The warning was issued after the Karnataka Food Safety and Quality Department tested various cake samples and found harmful artificial colours in 12 samples.Investigation and Results

235 cake samples were tested by the Karnataka Health Department, out of which 12 samples were found to contain dangerous artificial colours. These harmful colours included Allura Red, Sunset Yellow FCF, Ponso 4R, Tartrazine, and Carmoisine. These colours were found in high quantities especially in Red Velvet and Black Forest cake samples.

It has been reported that these chemicals are used to enhance the visual appeal of cakes, but their excessive use can have a negative impact on cancer and mental health. These additives are strictly regulated under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and Food Safety Regulations of 2011, but some bakeries are not following these standards.

Food safety department’s warning
Food Safety Commissioner Srinivas K. warned bakeries that strict action will be taken against them if they continue to use unsafe chemicals and additives. “We have detected harmful, cancer-causing substances in some of the cake samples tested. Bakeries must immediately follow safety standards or face serious consequences,” he said.

Checks of other food products
Not just cakes, the health department had also checked other food items. In August, 221 paneer and 65 khoya samples were tested, of which one each was found to be substandard. Besides, inspections were also conducted at railway food stalls and tourist spots in September, where food safety rules were not being followed at many places.

The Karnataka government has taken this issue seriously and has given strict instructions to bakeries not to use harmful chemicals and additives in their products. This inspection by the Food Safety Department has been done to ensure the safety of consumers, so that people can get safe and quality food products.
