Fake Calls:- Telecom Department launched two-tier system to stop international scam calls, know more.
Fake Calls Government’s plan :-The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched a new two-tier system to detect and block scam and spam calls from international numbers. The system will work in two phases to effectively control the growing international spoofed calls in the country.
In the first phase, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) will try to identify and block international spoofed calls coming on their networks. Under this, telecom companies will be able to upgrade their systems to identify scam calls and block them before they enter the Indian network.
In the second phase, a centralized system will be introduced to block international spoofed calls made by subscribers of other telecom operators. This system will coordinate between all telecom operators so that scam or spoofed calls on any network can be immediately identified and blocked.

The Ministry of Telecommunications said in a press release issued on October 4 that so far all four major telecom companies have successfully implemented this system. According to the ministry, “So far, more than 4.5 million spoofed calls have been prevented from entering the Indian telecom network.” About one-third of the total spoofed calls are being controlled through this system.
The ministry said that in the second phase, a centralized system will soon be rolled out for all telecom service providers, which will be able to completely eliminate scam calls.
In recent times, many Indian users have complained of receiving international scam or spam calls through WhatsApp and other OTT platforms. In view of this, the Ministry of Communications has also taken some other steps to control this problem. This includes setting up a Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) to deal with cyber crime and financial fraud. Apart from this, a portal called “Samchar Saathi” has also been launched for citizens, where people can track their lost or stolen mobile phones.
The ministry also said that an AI-based tool is being used to identify and disable mobile connections obtained through fake KYC documents.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also recently directed all telecom operators to implement AI/ML based spam detection systems to prevent unwanted calls and SMS. To reduce spam calls even more, TRAI has proposed a new CNAP system, which will make caller ID mandatory. Apart from this, charges may also be levied on users who make more than 50 calls or send more than 50 SMS in a day.
The introduction of this new two-tier system is expected to curb international scam calls to a great extent, providing relief to Indian users from this problem.
