Maha Kumbh Crime News:-The Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is a time when millions of devotees gather to wash away their sins in the sacred waters of the Sangam. However, one man came to the city not for devotion, but to commit an unthinkable crime—he took the life of his own wife. This shocking incident unfolded in a guesthouse meant for pilgrims, where the accused murdered his wife to continue an illicit relationship with another woman.
A Planned Murder Disguised as a Pilgrimage
The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar from Trilokpuri, Delhi, brought his wife, Meenakshi, to Prayagraj under the pretense of visiting the Mahakumbh. But in reality, he had been plotting her murder for months. On the night of February 18, inside a homestay in Jhunsi, he brutally slit her throat in the bathroom.
The next morning, on February 19, the police received a report about a woman’s dead body found in the bathroom of a guesthouse. Upon investigation, they discovered that the couple had checked in the previous night, and the guesthouse had allotted them a room without verifying their identity. When the manager noticed something suspicious the next morning, he informed the authorities.
Identifying the Victim and the Shocking Truth
Since there were no immediate clues to the woman’s identity, the police published her photograph in newspapers and on social media. On February 21, her family recognized the picture. Meenakshi’s brother, Pravesh Kumar, along with her two sons, rushed to Prayagraj and confirmed her identity at the Jhunsi police station.
Meanwhile, Ashok tried to mislead his family. He called his son, Ashish, and falsely claimed that Meenakshi had gone missing in the crowd during the Mahakumbh. However, his other son, Ashwin, became suspicious. He traveled to Prayagraj with relatives on February 20 to search for his mother.
CCTV Footage and Social Media Expose the Lie
The police launched a detailed investigation, analyzing CCTV footage and forensic evidence. They noticed discrepancies in Ashok’s statements. The final nail in the coffin was a video uploaded on social media by Ashok himself—a day before the murder—showing him and Meenakshi taking a holy dip at the Sangam. This video, meant to deceive others, actually helped the police establish a timeline and confirm his involvement.
As the evidence piled up, Ashok could no longer deny his crime. During interrogation, he confessed that he had been planning to kill Meenakshi for the past three months. The reason? He wanted to continue his extramarital affair without any obstacles.
What was meant to be a spiritual journey for Meenakshi turned into a trap set by her own husband. Ashok thought he had executed a perfect crime, but his lies and the power of modern investigation led to his downfall. The police arrested him, and now he faces serious legal consequences.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder that even in the holiest of places, some people bring their sins with them, rather than seeking redemption.
