Rajya Sabha:-Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are being stalled these days due to deep political confrontation. Every day there is a debate and uproar between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition India Alliance. Amidst this political tension, the India Alliance has announced to bring a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. This step is being taken under Article 67 (B) of the Constitution, and there is unity among the opposition parties regarding this.

Why is the no-confidence motion being brought?

India Alliance alleges that Vice President Dhankhar is adopting a partisan attitude in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. Opposition leaders say that they repeatedly gave Dhankhar a chance to be impartial, but his behavior on Monday made it clear that now it has become necessary to take action against him.

The opposition claims that they had already taken signatures of more than 70 MPs on this proposal, but they could not move it forward in August as they had decided to give Dhankhar another chance to improve.

What is the process of no-confidence motion?

Under Article 67 (B) of the Constitution, the procedure for removing the Vice President from office is as follows:

A 14-day notice has to be given in the Rajya Sabha before bringing the proposal.

The proposal must be passed in the Rajya Sabha.

After this, the proposal must be agreed to in the Lok Sabha as well.

The Vice President’s term is 5 years, but if he has to be removed, this process has to be completed.

If the Vice President himself wants to resign, he can do so by writing a letter to the President.

Unity of the Opposition

The Congress has taken the lead on this issue and has the support of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other opposition parties. The opposition believes that Dhankhar’s attitude is hurting the dignity and impartiality of the Rajya Sabha.

Why did the situation deteriorate in the Rajya Sabha?

On Monday, there was a huge uproar between the ruling party and the opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

The BJP accused the Congress of conspiring to destabilize the government and the economy through foreign organizations.

On the other hand, the opposition tried to corner Prime Minister Modi and his government on matters related to the Adani Group.

Due to this uproar, the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned several times and finally adjourned for the day.

When will the meeting be held?

In view of this serious situation, Chairman Dhankhar has called a meeting of all parties at 10:30 am on Tuesday. It will be important to see whether any consensus is reached between the ruling party and the opposition in this meeting or the uproar continues.

Bringing a no-confidence motion in the Rajya Sabha is a serious political step. This decision of the India Alliance reflects the displeasure of the opposition parties and the growing discontent against Dhankhar. Now the question is whether this motion will be successful, and if yes, what changes will it bring in Indian politics.
