Aligarh UP News:-A bizarre and shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh has become the talk of the town, where a mother ran away with her own daughter’s groom just days before the wedding. The unusual love story has finally come to an end as the police caught both the woman and her lover — her would-be son-in-law — near the Nepal border. The incident has sparked huge discussions on social media and in local news.

What Exactly Happened?

The case is from the Mandraq police station area in Aligarh. A local man named Jitendra Kumar, who works in Bengaluru, had fixed his daughter Shivani’s marriage with a young man named Rahul a few months ago. For the wedding, Jitendra had arranged jewellery worth ₹5 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh in cash.

But things took a shocking turn when Rahul, instead of marrying Shivani, fell for her mother, 42-year-old Sapna Devi (also known as Anita). The two started talking over the phone while discussing wedding arrangements. Their chats soon turned into a secret affair.

Before the wedding could take place, both of them made a plan and disappeared together. Not just that — Sapna Devi also took away all the jewellery and cash meant for her daughter’s wedding. The family filed a police complaint, and since then, the story grabbed attention across the region.

Police Launched a Search Operation

As soon as the family approached the police, three teams were formed to trace the absconding pair. But for days, there was no success. Finally, after tracking their mobile locations and movements, the police managed to catch them near the Nepal border. Both Sapna and Rahul were taken into custody and are now being brought back to Aligarh.

Mother’s Shocking Confession

According to media reports, during police interrogation, Sapna Devi broke down and made some shocking revelations. She claimed that her husband was an alcoholic and used to physically abuse her frequently. After her daughter’s engagement to Rahul, she and Rahul would occasionally talk on the phone. Sapna alleged that even her daughter started blaming her for talking to Rahul.

She also revealed that her husband would often taunt and threaten her, saying one day she would run away with Rahul. These constant insults and torture pushed her towards Rahul, and eventually, they decided to elope.

Sapna even requested the police not to take her to the Mandraq police station, fearing mistreatment. She asked for help from the Dadaun police station instead. SP (Rural) Amrit Jain confirmed this development.

Rahul Narrates Their Escape Story

During the investigation, Rahul revealed the entire sequence of their escape. He said that in early April, Sapna left Aligarh and came to Kasganj. From there, they took a bus to Bareilly and then travelled to Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

For several days, they stayed in Bihar, unaware of the massive uproar their act had caused. When they finally turned on a mobile phone and checked social media, they found out that their pictures and story were all over the internet. Scared, the duo left Muzaffarpur and reached Delhi by bus. From there, they hired a cab and reached a location near the Nepal border, where police finally caught them.

Ironically, today — April 16 — was the original wedding date fixed for Shivani and Rahul. While the bride’s family was preparing for a grand wedding, Rahul and Sapna were on the run.

This strange love story has become a hot topic of conversation in the village and on social media. While many are sympathizing with Sapna over her troubled marriage, most people are criticizing her for betraying her daughter and stealing the wedding money and jewellery.

The police are now bringing the duo back to Aligarh for further legal action. The investigation is still ongoing, and legal proceedings will begin soon.
