Delhi-NCR:-In Delhi-NCR and most parts of North India, winter is gradually fading away. While mornings and evenings are still chilly, the afternoons are warm with bright sunshine. The sun is so strong during the day that sitting outside for too long gives a feeling of summer heat. The cold wave has mostly disappeared, bringing relief to people.
Weather Department’s Prediction
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather is expected to change in the coming days. It is being predicted that rain may occur in early February in Delhi-NCR and several parts of North India. If this happens, the temperature will drop slightly, bringing a few more days of winter chill.

On January 31 (Friday), Delhi recorded a temperature of 10.8°C at 5:30 AM. Rain is expected in the coming days, which could bring a slight dip in temperatures. Apart from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh may also experience similar weather conditions.
Cold Wave Ending in Kashmir
In Kashmir, the harsh 40-day winter period called ‘Chillai-Kalan’ ended on Thursday with clear skies and sunshine. However, clouds are expected to gather by the evening, increasing the chances of rain.
The ‘Chillai-Kalan’ period, which started on December 21, is known for its intense cold and heavy snowfall. This winter, on the very first day of ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ Srinagar recorded a temperature of -8.5°C, breaking a 50-year-old record.

Snowfall and Rain Expected in Himachal & Uttarakhand
In Himachal Pradesh, the cold wave is still active. The weather department has predicted rain and snowfall in Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti. Currently, clouds are moving across these regions, indicating a possible change in weather.
In Uttarakhand, dense fog and frost are causing disruptions in daily life. Mornings are especially difficult due to thick fog and icy roads.
Although North India is witnessing a shift in weather, the upcoming rain and snowfall may bring back winter chills for a few days. People should stay updated with weather reports and be prepared for sudden temperature drops in the coming week.
