Meerut News:-These days in Uttar Pradesh, there’s been a series of strange stories involving mothers-in-law, sons-in-law, and wedding dramas. After one case in Aligarh where a mother-in-law ran away with her future son-in-law, now a shocking incident has come from Meerut.
A young groom happily arrived with his wedding procession (baraat), excited to marry the girl he was promised. But what happened next left him in complete shock.
When the wedding ceremony (Nikah) began and the religious priest (Maulvi) called out the name of the bride during the “Qubool Hai” (I accept) ritual — instead of the young girl’s name, he heard the name of a woman named Tahirah.
At first, the groom thought it was a mistake. But when he lifted the bride’s veil, he was horrified to see that the woman sitting there was 45-year-old Tahirah — his would-be mother-in-law — and not the 21-year-old girl Mantasha he was supposed to marry.
📌 What did the groom do next?
The groom, Mohammad Azeem (22 years old), immediately protested. He refused to go through with the marriage and demanded an explanation. But instead of listening to him, the family members started beating him up. They threatened him saying if he didn’t stay quiet, they would file a fake rape case against him.
Azeem also claimed that the family had taken ₹5 lakh (around $6000) from him to arrange the marriage.
Feeling completely cheated, Azeem went to the police and filed a complaint at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Meerut.
📌 How did this happen?
According to Azeem, the marriage was arranged by his elder brother Nadeem and sister-in-law Shaida. Azeem says that during the matchmaking process, they showed him Mantasha’s photo and promised him the marriage would be with her.
But on the day of Eid (31st March), during the Nikah ceremony, the family swapped the bride and secretly made Tahirah, a 45-year-old widow and Mantasha’s mother, sit in place of her daughter under the bridal veil.
📌 What did the police say?
After the complaint, the police started an investigation. Brahmpuri police’s Circle Officer (CO) Soumya Asthana confirmed that both families have now reached a compromise and Azeem has officially withdrawn his complaint.
But the incident quickly became famous and reminded people of a similar case in Aligarh recently, where a mother-in-law ran away with her future son-in-law.
In India, marriage is considered a sacred bond. Cases like this, where families cheat the groom and force him to marry someone else — especially the bride’s mother — are extremely rare and shocking.
People on social media have been making jokes, but also expressing concern about how easily such fraud can happen under the cover of religious customs.
A 22-year-old man in Meerut was tricked into marrying his would-be bride’s 45-year-old mother during the wedding ceremony, and when he protested, he was beaten and threatened. Later, the matter was settled with a compromise.
