Delhi New CM:-The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has returned to power after 27 years by winning 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections. Now the biggest question is who will the party choose for the post of Chief Minister. Know the whole matter?

Delhi New CM:-The BJP has secured a massive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats. This victory marks the party’s return to power in the capital after 26 years. The biggest question now is: Who will be the next Chief Minister of Delhi?
The party contested the elections without announcing a CM candidate, so the decision is now in the hands of the central leadership. Many reports suggest that BJP might appoint a woman as the next CM. If this happens, Delhi will get a woman Chief Minister for the second time after Atishi from AAP, who was the sole woman leader from her party to win.
Which Women Leaders Are in the Race?
Four women BJP leaders have won their seats in this election:
-
Rekha Gupta (Shalimar Bagh MLA)
- National Vice President of BJP’s women’s wing.
- Won her seat with a comfortable margin of 29,595 votes.
-
Shikha Rai (Greater Kailash MLA)
- Defeated Saurabh Bharadwaj (AAP’s key leader) in a high-stakes battle.
-
Neelam Pehalwan (Najafgarh MLA)
- Secured a massive victory with 1,01,708 votes.
-
Poonam Sharma (Wazirpur MLA)
- Won by a margin of 11,425 votes.
Apart from them, some other women leaders are also being considered for the CM post:
- Smriti Irani – Former Union Minister, lost the 2024 Amethi Lok Sabha election but is still a strong contender.
- Bansuri Swaraj – Daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, recently won from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
Other Strong Contenders
Though a woman CM is being considered, some male leaders are also in the race:
- Vijender Gupta (Rohini MLA)
- Ajay Mahawar (Ghonda MLA)
- Abhay Verma (Laxmi Nagar MLA)
- Kapil Mishra (ex-AAP leader, now in BJP)
- Parvesh Verma (defeated Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi seat)
What Will BJP Decide?
A senior BJP leader told Hindustan Times that the party is keeping its options open. They are considering several factors, including:
- A leader with a strong political background.
- A leader who represents the Purvanchali (Eastern UP-Bihar) community.
- A Sikh candidate, given Delhi’s significant Sikh population.
- A woman leader, to strengthen BJP’s image among women voters.
The BJP has a history of keeping CM names secret until the last moment, as seen in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Odisha elections. So, it’s possible that a surprise candidate might emerge.
