Aligarh News:-A story that sounds straight out of a Bollywood film has become the talk of Aligarh these days. In a bizarre turn of events, a mother-in-law ran away with her would-be son-in-law, just nine days before her daughter’s wedding. The case has left the entire town stunned, and now one shocking revelation after another is coming out as police continue their investigation.
📌 What Actually Happened?
The incident took place in Dadon police station area’s Machhariya village. Rahul Kumar, a resident of this village, was set to marry a girl named Shivani from Mandraq on 16th April. However, before the wedding could take place, on 6th April, Rahul ran away — not with his bride-to-be, but with her own mother, Anita Devi.
As soon as the news spread, both families were in shock and immediately filed missing complaints. The police quickly formed three teams and started searching for them. After 10 days of being on the run, both Rahul and Anita surrendered themselves at Dadon police station, once they realized the police were closing in on their location.
Shockingly, this surrender happened on the exact day Rahul was supposed to get married to Shivani.
📌 Where Are They Now?
Currently, Rahul is in police custody at Mandraq police station, while Anita Devi — who also goes by the names Sapna and Apna Devi — has been sent to a One-Stop Centre, a government-run shelter for women.
The police are questioning them separately, and both are sticking to their stand. They say they have done nothing wrong and that they’re in love. Their wish now is to get married and spend the rest of their lives together.
📌 Mother-in-Law’s Future Plan That Shocked Everyone
What’s even more surprising is Anita’s clear-cut statement about her future. She reportedly told the police that she doesn’t want to return to her husband Jitendra, claiming she suffered mental and emotional torture at his hands. According to her, it was this harassment that led her to develop a bond with Rahul, which slowly turned into love.
Anita openly declared that she now considers Rahul her life partner. She also added that even if she doesn’t officially marry him, she will live with him for the rest of her life. “We’ve already made all our plans for the future. No matter what happens, we’ll live together now,” Anita told the police.
📌 What Does Rahul Have to Say?
Rahul, too, seems ready to go along with whatever Anita decides. Speaking to the police, he said,
“I don’t care about age or what society says. My intention was never wrong. I only wanted to help her because her family used to torture her. If she wants to marry me, I’ll do it. If she doesn’t, I’ll still live with her — whatever she decides is fine with me.”
He also made it clear that he’s not worried about what people say about this relationship. According to him, love has no age limits, and all that matters is their mutual understanding.
Interestingly, on 17th April, both families were called to the police station for counselling and further investigation. However, till now, no one from either family has shown up. The police are still waiting to hear their side of the story.
Legally, Anita can’t marry Rahul until she divorces her current husband, Jitendra. When she was informed about this by the police, she reportedly said she didn’t care about legal formalities and would continue to live with Rahul regardless of marriage.
The police are now trying to resolve the situation peacefully while ensuring everyone’s safety.
This unusual love story has become the centre of attention in Aligarh and surrounding areas. Locals are talking about it everywhere — from tea shops to market corners. While some see it as a scandal, others view it as a personal choice.
