After the violence that erupted two days ago in Nagpur, the atmosphere is calm now, but tension still persists. Nagpur Police has arrested more than 50 people for being involved in this violence. Know about the entire incident?

Nagpur violence:-Two days after the violence in Nagpur, the city is experiencing a tense calm. The police have arrested more than 50 people and registered multiple cases against them. According to the police, Faheem Shamim Khan is the mastermind behind this entire incident. Four FIRs (First Information Reports) have been filed, detailing the sequence of events that led to the violence.
Who is Faheem Khan?
Faheem Shamim Khan is a local Muslim leader in Nagpur and the president of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP). He had also contested the Lok Sabha elections against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but he received very few votes, and his deposit was forfeited.
Now, the police claim that he played a key role in the violence. But what exactly happened, and why is he being called the mastermind?
How Did the Violence Begin?
According to the FIR, the events unfolded on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti (as per the Hindu calendar). On this occasion, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal gathered near Gandhi Gate.
During their protest, they raised slogans against Aurangzeb’s tomb and burned an effigy symbolizing Aurangzeb. This action triggered opposition from Faheem Khan and his supporters.
In response, Faheem Khan, along with 50-60 people, gathered illegally near the police station and demanded action against those who protested against Aurangzeb. Following their complaint, the police registered a case against nine people from the Hindu groups.
How Did the Situation Escalate?
- The police instructed everyone to remain peaceful and disperse.
- However, around 4 PM, a crowd of 400-500 people gathered near Shivaji Maharaj’s statue.
- Police repeatedly announced on loudspeakers that the gathering was illegal and people should return to their homes.
- Despite these warnings, the crowd ignored the police and continued gathering.
According to the FIR, some people in the crowd started shouting provocative slogans, saying:
“The police are here now. We won’t spare them or any Hindu responsible for this!”
This incited more anger, and the mob became aggressive.
Violence Erupts: Attacks on Police and Public
- The angry crowd started waving weapons like axes, sticks, and stones in the air, creating fear in the area.
- The mob began attacking police officers with stones and sharp weapons.
- Some individuals even made petrol bombs and threw them at the police.
- Policemen were beaten up using weapons and injured in the attack.
Sexual Harassment Allegations
One of the most disturbing parts of the FIR states that:
- Some rioters took advantage of the chaos and darkness to sexually harass female police officers.
- A female constable from the RCP squad was touched inappropriately, and other women were also harassed.
- Some rioters made vulgar gestures and passed obscene comments at female officers.
Current Situation and Arrests
Following the violence, the police acted swiftly, arresting more than 50 people. Faheem Khan has been identified as the mastermind, and investigations are ongoing. The situation in Nagpur remains tense but under control, with police presence in sensitive areas.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about communal tensions and law enforcement challenges in India.
