So far, Ukrainian officials have not commented on the attack. This meeting in Saudi Arabia follows a heated exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on February 28. Many believe this is a fresh attempt at diplomatic negotiations to find a resolution to the conflict.
Major Targets in Russia
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that:
- The Kursk region, which shares a border with Ukraine, was the hardest hit, with 126 drones shot down. Parts of this region are still under Ukrainian military control.
- Moscow faced the second-largest attack, with 91 drones intercepted.
- Other regions affected include Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan.
Damage in Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that over 70 drones headed toward the Russian capital were destroyed. However, the attack still caused damage:
- A building’s roof was hit.
- Several cars and residential buildings suffered damage.
- One person died, and nine others were injured in the Moscow region, as per Governor Andrei Vorobyov.
- In Lipetsk, another person was injured when a drone crashed on a highway.
Disruptions in Air & Rail Services
Due to security concerns, six major airports were temporarily shut down, including:
- Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky, Yaroslavl, and Nizhny Novgorod airports.
- Train services from Domodedovo railway station in Moscow were also halted for a short period.
This attack highlights the ongoing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war, even as diplomatic efforts continue. The coming days will determine whether this escalation affects the negotiations or leads to a further increase in hostilities.
